Where Today's Learners Become Tomorrow's Leaders

Welcome to B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy!

The Savanna School District is proud to offer B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy for the 2026–27 school year—a high-quality early childhood program designed to give our youngest learners the strongest possible start on their educational journey.

B.R.I.G.H.T. stands for Build • Realize • Imagine • Grow • Harvest • Thrive, and these six words reflect our commitment to helping every child reach their fullest potential. We believe every child deserves a strong start, every family deserves access to exceptional early childhood education, and every day should inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning.

Serving children from eighteen months through eligibility for Transitional Kindergarten, B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy welcomes toddlers, two-year-olds, three-year-olds, and four-year-olds—including children who are still in diapers. Our caring, highly qualified teachers recognize that every child is unique, bringing individual strengths, interests, and learning styles into the classroom. Through nurturing relationships and individualized support, we help children build confidence, independence, and the foundational skills they need for lifelong success.

At B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy, children learn best through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions. Our classrooms are filled with thoughtfully planned, hands-on learning experiences that encourage creativity, problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking. Teachers create developmentally appropriate opportunities for children to ask questions, investigate new ideas, collaborate with classmates, and discover the world around them through guided exploration and purposeful play.

Our instructional program focuses on nurturing the whole child by supporting growth in social-emotional development, language and literacy, cognitive development, early mathematics, science, creative arts, physical development, and self-help skills. Through language-rich experiences, music, movement, art, STEM exploration, early literacy activities, and social-emotional learning, children develop the confidence and skills needed for future academic success while building meaningful friendships and a lifelong love of learning.

Families throughout Orange County and Los Angeles County are welcome to enroll, making B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy an excellent choice for working families seeking a safe, enriching, and affordable preschool experience. Our program operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., providing flexible full-day care and learning opportunities designed to meet the needs of today's families.

One of the greatest benefits of B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy is its affordability. Depending on family eligibility, enrollment may be available at no cost or at a very low cost, ensuring that high-quality early childhood education remains accessible to as many families as possible.

At B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy, children do much more than prepare for kindergarten. They learn how to collaborate, communicate, solve problems, develop independence, build friendships, and become enthusiastic learners. Families quickly discover that B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners is more than a preschool program—it is the beginning of a lifelong educational journey and an opportunity to become part of the Savanna family from the very start.

We invite you to discover why so many families choose B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy as the first step in their child's educational adventure. We look forward to welcoming your family and helping your child Build, Realize, Imagine, Grow, Harvest, and Thrive.

At B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy preschool, we believe that young children learn best through meaningful, hands-on experiences that nurture the whole child. Our instructional program is intentionally designed to support each child's cognitive, language, social-emotional, physical, and creative development in a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.

Children's interests are at the heart of B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy. Teachers thoughtfully observe, listen, and respond to students' questions, ideas, and natural curiosities to create engaging learning experiences that inspire exploration, creativity, and problem-solving. Through play-based learning, children actively investigate the world around them while developing the foundational skills needed for future academic success.

Our B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy classrooms provide rich opportunities for hands-on learning through purposeful play, exploration, collaboration, and discovery. Students engage in literacy, mathematics, science, art, music, movement, and dramatic play experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, communication, and independence. Teachers intentionally facilitate learning through guided instruction, small-group activities, and child-initiated exploration, ensuring that every experience is developmentally appropriate and meaningful.

To support early literacy and language development, B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy incorporates research-based instructional practices, including GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) strategies that build vocabulary, oral language, and comprehension while supporting all learners, including multilingual students. We also utilize Handwriting Without Tears to develop fine motor skills, proper pencil grasp, and foundational handwriting habits through multisensory, developmentally appropriate instruction.

Throughout the school year, children are encouraged to build confidence, develop positive relationships, solve problems collaboratively, and become independent learners. By fostering a joyful learning environment where curiosity is celebrated and every child is valued, B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy lays the foundation for lifelong learning and future success.

Welcome to B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy!

Ms. Darcy Spicer joined the B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy as Coordinator in November, 2024.  With over 20 years of experience in early learning programs, including Transitional Kindergarten, Preschool, Toddlers and Infants, as well as parent education and engagement, she brings a great passion for the education of children 0-5 years old.

Ms. Spicer started her career in public education as an elementary school teacher for grades 4 & 5, and as a reading intervention teacher.  Eventually, she went in to early learning as a school readiness teacher, followed by family literacy specialist, and then early learning specialist before taking on the administrator role of coordinator in a neighboring school district.

Ms. Spicer holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature and Composition from the University of Arizona, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Multiple Subject Credential earned through Azusa Pacific University, and a Master’s Degree in Reading Instruction from California State University, Fullerton.

Ms. Spicer has spent the majority of her career working with children and staff in the early learning field.  Understanding that the brain is mostly formed by the age of 5 years old, she believes the learning children do during this developmental window is key to the rest of their education journey throughout life.  She guides staff to focus on developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children to set them up as lifelong learners who possess curiosity, problem-solving skills, and empathy for the community around them.
