The Savanna School District is committed to preparing students for success in an increasingly digital world. Technology is thoughtfully integrated into teaching and learning across all grade levels, providing students with opportunities to develop the digital literacy, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills that are essential for future success.
Students have access to a variety of technology tools and resources that support classroom instruction and enhance learning experiences. Through the District's technology program, students utilize Chromebooks and iPads to access instructional materials, complete assignments, conduct research, collaborate with classmates, and demonstrate their learning in innovative ways. Technology is also available to students participating in our WINGS Expanded Learning Opportunities Program, ensuring continued access to digital learning resources beyond the regular school day.
To support communication between home and school, Savanna School District utilizes ParentSquare as its primary communication platform. ParentSquare provides families with convenient access to school and district news, event information, attendance notifications, text messages, emails, forms, and important updates—all in one location. We strongly encourage all parents and guardians to download the ParentSquare app to stay informed and connected throughout the school year.
Students in grades 3–6 utilize Google Classroom as their primary digital learning platform. Through Google Classroom, students can access assignments, instructional materials, classroom resources, and teacher feedback while developing organizational and technology skills that prepare them for future educational experiences. Students in Transitional Kindergarten through second grade use Seesaw, an interactive platform that allows students to share their learning, showcase classroom activities, and strengthen communication between teachers and families.
Technology is used to enhance learning across curricular areas. Students engage with digital resources that support literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and STEM learning while allowing teachers to monitor progress and provide targeted instruction based on student needs. These tools help personalize learning experiences and ensure students receive the support and enrichment necessary to achieve academic success.
While technology plays an important role in today's classrooms, we recognize that many families are thoughtful about balancing screen time at home. In Savanna, we believe technology should enhance learning—not replace high-quality instruction, meaningful classroom interactions, hands-on experiences, or traditional learning tools. Our goal is to use technology when it adds value to the learning process and helps students engage more deeply with academic content.
We also understand that some families prefer to limit screen time outside of school. Whenever possible, students have access to textbooks and other print-based resources to complete assignments and practice skills. Teachers thoughtfully balance digital and traditional learning opportunities to ensure students benefit from both. By combining technology with strong instructional practices, we help students develop essential digital literacy skills while maintaining a well-rounded educational experience.
The District is equally committed to teaching responsible digital citizenship. Students participate in age-appropriate internet safety and digital citizenship lessons each year, learning how to use technology safely, responsibly, and respectfully. Students are expected to follow District technology policies and acceptable use guidelines whenever using District devices, networks, and online resources.
Savanna is also proud to provide STEM Centers at each school site, where students engage in hands-on learning experiences that connect technology, engineering, creativity, and innovation. Through classroom instruction, STEM opportunities, and digital learning tools, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to become confident learners, responsible digital citizens, and future-ready leaders.
Beyond the classroom, technology supports many aspects of District operations, including student information systems, transportation services, library resources, parent communication, employee services, and school safety systems. These tools strengthen communication, improve efficiency, and help ensure a high-quality educational experience for students and families.
As technology continues to evolve, Savanna School District remains committed to providing students with meaningful opportunities to use digital tools to learn, create, collaborate, and succeed while maintaining a balanced approach that keeps teaching, learning, and student relationships at the center of everything we do.
As we continue moving forward with technology, we are indeed preparing Today’s Learners to become Tomorrow’s Leaders as we ensure students have digital literacy skills that will propel them into college and career readiness.
