Saturday Academy
Saturday Academy Program
The Savanna School District's Saturday Academy provides students with an engaging learning experience that combines academic support, enrichment, and hands-on learning opportunities. Designed to help students stay connected to their learning, Saturday Academy offers meaningful activities that support student growth in a positive and welcoming environment.
Saturday Academy is not intended to be punitive. Instead, it provides students with additional opportunities to strengthen academic skills, explore new concepts, and participate in interactive learning experiences alongside their peers. Lessons vary throughout the year and often include engaging activities in literacy, mathematics, science, technology, and collaborative problem-solving. Students may participate in hands-on projects, STEM challenges, creative learning experiences, and other activities designed to make learning both enjoyable and meaningful.
Students who have accumulated absences may attend Saturday Academy as an opportunity to recover lost instructional time. In accordance with state guidelines, students must attend the entire Saturday Academy session—240 minutes—to receive attendance recovery credit.
Saturday Academy serves as an opportunity for students to receive extra academic support. The program is staffed by Savanna educators who are committed to helping students build confidence, strengthen skills, and experience success.
All instructional materials are provided by the District, and students do not need to bring any school supplies. To ensure students receive full benefit from the program and qualify for attendance recovery credit, students must attend the entire session.
Saturday Academy sessions are held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on designated Saturdays throughout the school year. See the schedule for specific dates; all Saturday Academy sessions are held at Hansen School.
At Savanna, we believe every day of learning matters. Saturday Academy provides another opportunity for students to stay engaged, strengthen their academic skills, and continue on the path toward success while supporting strong attendance habits that contribute to long-term achievement.
