As we begin the 2026–27 school year, we have much to celebrate and even more to look forward to. Every day, our dedicated staff, families, and community partners work together to ensure that our students receive the high-quality education, support, and opportunities they deserve. It’s an exciting time to be part of Savanna as we continue our mission of preparing Today's Learners to become Tomorrow's Leaders.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to academic excellence, student success, and continuous improvement. Our schools continue to provide rigorous, standards-based instruction that challenges students to think critically, communicate effectively, and develop the skills needed for future success. This year, we’ll begin piloting new instructional materials in math as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure students receive the strongest possible educational foundation. 

We’re also excited to launch several initiatives designed to strengthen teaching and learning throughout the District. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) will be implemented District-wide, providing teachers with dedicated opportunities to collaborate, analyze student achievement data, and focus on the instructional practices that have the greatest impact on student learning. 

Beyond academics, we remain committed to providing students with opportunities to explore their talents, discover their passions, and develop confidence in themselves. Our Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program continues to flourish, offering instruction in dance, theatre arts, and choral music at every school. Through these experiences, students develop creativity, collaboration, communication skills, and self-expression. This year, we’re especially proud that Hansen School has been selected to participate in the highly competitive Disney Musicals in Schools program, providing students with unique performing arts opportunities while helping us strengthen theatre arts programming throughout the District.

Learning in Savanna extends far beyond the traditional school day. Our W.I.N.G.S. Expanded Learning Opportunities Program continues to provide students with safe, engaging, and enriching experiences after school. Through academic support, STEM exploration, arts programming, sports, leadership opportunities, and partnerships with community organizations, students have opportunities to discover new interests and develop skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. 

We are equally proud of our B.R.I.G.H.T. Learners Academy, which serves children from 18 months through 4 years of age. This exceptional early learning program provides a strong foundation for future success by supporting language development, social-emotional growth, cognitive development, and school readiness skills. Just as importantly, it helps build meaningful relationships with families and creates a welcoming pathway into the Savanna community from the very beginning of a child's educational journey.

As we continue to innovate and grow, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. This summer, the District completed significant infrastructure improvements that support the implementation of wearable crisis alert badges. These enhancements strengthen our emergency response capabilities and complement our ongoing partnerships with tlocal law enforcement, our School Resource Officer support, and Team Kids that help foster positive relationships between students, first responders, and the community.

The strength of the Savanna School District lies not only in our programs and initiatives, but also in the people who make our community so special. Our students inspire us with their curiosity and determination. Our staff demonstrates extraordinary dedication every day. Our families and community partners provide invaluable support that enriches the educational experiences we offer.
